Looking back at 2006

January

January, found us at the "Giant"  (grocery store) in Camp Hill to attend a cooking class.

Lady Gadabout, aka, as Jean planned this "event" we thought we were going to learn how to cook, and then eat, (which we love to do) but this day they were teaching us how to make different drinks.  (non alcoholic) of course.  We had a great time mixing, tasting and spilling.

February

February, WOW!!!  we reached our 1 year anniversary. We celebrated at the Ranch House Restaurant the same place we held our very first "Event" we enjoyed a delicious lunch.  New membership cards were passed out and a short meeting was held.  The Queen asked for members to plan "Events" for the coming year.

The convention was held at the Harrisburg Holiday Inn the weekend of April 21, 22, 23, 2006.  The theme was a Red Hat Luau.  Friday night everyone dressed in luau costumes, the food was Hawaiian, and we learned to dance the Hula.  Saturday night was Red Hat full regalia, you never saw so much Red and Purple, the room was filled with 500 Red Hat Gals.  Prizes were awarded for the door decorations, and Bernice of our chapter won for her door, (the best use of red and purple).

The Queen's Coronation Ceremony at
The Garden Seat Tea Room

4/25/05

What: To celebrate the Anniversary of the Red Hat Society, we will be holding our Coronation Ceremony at The Garden Seat Tea Room.  The Queen Roberta will be crowned and she will then dub Royal Titles to the members of the court.  We will enjoy a light lunch followed by the crowning of our Queen.

We had such an incredible time at the Coronation for our Queen.  It was a very well planned event to celebrate the crowning of our Queen Roberta.  It is not every day you get crowned the Queen, so with the help of her subjects, Roberta organized a fun gathering and celebration for us all.  Roberta being the generous and thoughtful First Class Lady she is, gave all the ladies a gift of a Red Hat Teacup and Saucer.

We had a delicious lunch which was homemade by the wonderful cooks and owners of the charming and quaint Garden Seat Tearoom in Duncannon.  Throughout the lunch we celebrated Gladys's birthday by playing "Happy Birthday" to her on our Kazoos.  Betsy shared several side-splitting moments with excerpts from a hilarious book she had.  Gladys cut out several Red Hat comics out of the paper and passed them around which caused some of the ladies to hold back tears of laughter.  Upcoming events and usual business were discussed and then after dessert Anna initiated the Coronation.

Roberta was asked to stand with her right hand placed on the brim of her Red Hat and to repeat the Royal Oaths after Anna.  Then Gladys had the honor of crowning Roberta the Queen of the First Class "Fifty Niner" Red Hats & More.  After that, Grace recited the Crier Scroll and the led everyone in playing "Hail to the Chief (Queen)" on their Kazoos.  It was a riot!  Our Queen pranced and danced around the room waving her Royal Scepter around while we played.  We found out later that the owners of the Tearoom thought that we were the best Kazoo players yet!  The the Queen went around the table and dubbed each member with their Royal Titles and Grace read off each of their duties.

The Coronation was a once in a lifetime celebration.  Thank you Roberta for being our dedicated Queen and thank you for all the past, present and future efforts you put into making our group one of the best out there!
